Alabama Chief Justice Defies Federal Ruling on Gay Marriage

Alabama voters approved a constitutional amendment banning gay marriage in 2006. A federal judge in Mobile, Callie V.S. Granade, ruled last month that the state must recognize same-sex marriages. She put a hold on her order that was to expire Monday.
