All Roads Lead to Ru in New “AJ and the Queen” Trailer

Are your seat belts fastened? Because RuPaul is about to take you on the ride of your life.

Netflix previously released a teaser for Ru’s upcoming series AJ and the Queen, but the streaming service has finally delivered a full trailer for the 10-episode hourlong dramedy—and honey, the children are not ready.

In the new preview, we meet Ruby Red (RuPaul), “a bigger-than-life but down-on-her-luck drag queen who travels across America from club to club in a rundown 1990s R/V with her unlikely sidekick AJ (Izzy G), a recently orphaned, tough-talking, scrappy 11-year-old stowaway,” according to an official synopsis.

“As these two misfits, one tall, one small, travel from city to city, Ruby’s message of love and acceptance winds up touching people and changing their lives for the better. Oh, and RuPaul performs a killer musical number in every drag club.”

The trailer shows Ru’s acting range as he cries, hooks up with a hot guy, and clutches his pearls when AJ asks, “Who is Diana Ross?” Teach the children, Ru!

Ru isn’t the only queen along for the ride, either. As previously announced, 22 Drag Race legends make appearances in the show, including Latrice Royale, Bianca Del Rio, and Trinity the Tuck, who can’t seem to find her crown. RuPaul is a club queen again!

The supermodel of the world not only stars in AJ and the Queen but also serves as a writer and executive producer alongside Michael Patrick King, the Emmy-winning Sex and the City showrunner also known for his work on The Comeback and 2 Broke Girls.

It was previously announced that Josh Segarra (Broadway’s On Your Feet!) will play Hector, Ruby’s boyfriend, “who has a dark and dangerous side.” Matthew Wilkas (Gayby) has been cast in a recurring role as a hot cop.

Check out the new AJ and the Queen trailer below, and clear your calendars for the series’ January 10 premiere on Netflix.

I write about drag queens. Dolly Parton once ruffled my hair and said I was “just the cutest thing ever.”
