Aquaria sums up what we’re all thinking about the cast

RuPaul’s Secret Celebrity Drag Race is no longer a secret, and fans and queens alike have thoughts.

The new four-part series welcomed its first three contestants on Friday (April 24), sandwiched in between what we’ll now refer to as Civilian Drag Race (which this week starred Jeff Goldblum) and Untucked.

We use the word contestants, because as it turns out, the celebrity descriptor is doing a lot of heavy lifting.

Before Celebrity Drag Race aired fans had speculated that the likes of Harry Styles, Billy Porter and Sam Smith might be involved, with Trixie Mattel telling PinkNews back in December to expect “super A-list celebrities”.

Instead, we got Nico Tortorella, the versatile star of Scream 4 and the upcoming Walking Dead: World Beyond, Riverdale’s Jordan Connor and comedian Jermaine Fowler.

Drag Race icon Aquaria said what everybody was thinking.

The season nine winner also made some astute points about the way the series sometimes frames the art of drag, but also took time to congratulate everybody for their efforts.

Three Drag Race winners returned to the werk room as “Queens Supreme” – Trixie Mattel, Bob the Drag Queen and Monet X Change – who, as many noted, felt like the real stars.

Some joked that the show’s lacklustre lineup was entirely the point.

Aside from the somewhat disappointing cast reveal, Celebrity Drag Race was by large a hit.

The Snatch Game in particular was a resounding success.

Though some were shocked that Trixie Mattel had been called in to coach this particular challenge…

…including Trixie herself.

Many were thrilled to see Nico Tortorella represent the trans community, talking about how Drag Race gave them the courage to come out as non-binary – though the irony of this was duly noted.

But in the end, it was Jordan who was crowned America’s Next Celebrity Drag Superstar charming the judges and viewers at home with a surprisingly strong lip-sync and an emotional winner’s speech.

RuPaul’s Secret Celebrity Drag Race continues on Fridays on VH1.
