  1. Your argument can literally be turned around: once you cement into religious dogma and tradition that homosexuality is a sin, anyone who questions that ideology, or openly expresses their homosexual nature, is now a sinner actively rebelling against "the will of God." They can be ostracized, refused service, have their livelihoods destroyed, killed even, in the name of delivering justice to those rebelling against the Supreme will of God.

And if you look throughout history, that's exactly what's happened, a good number of it at the hands of Catholics.

Furthermore, your worries are unfounded. A court of law, for example, could not refuse a marriage license to a divorcee; the Catholic Church, however, under the first amendment holds that privilege.

Subsequently, while a company cannot discriminate which occupations are filled based on sex/gender; the Catholic Church can ban women from becoming priests outright.

You see, that is the beauty of the separation between Church and State; the State will stay out of the Church's business while the Church stays out of the State's.

  2. So you oppose my marriage because somewhere down the line you may lose your right to be prejudiced against us? what an astonishing revelation

  3. "Damn, I wonder what it would be like to be ostracized and potentially be in physical danger for who you are and what you believe in," I, a gay woman, say as I look up how accessible conversion camp websites are to my Catholic parents

  4. What we do? The church has been silent for too long sitting on the sideline while our schools are being indoctrinated by secular humanist.

Yes! His statement was not a guarantee.

The believers overcame before. And we can overcome again. Thank you Bishop Barron! It's uplifting!
Note: I'm not opposing the court's decision. Just commenting Barron's statements on the surface.

  6. Just because the secular state recognizes as valid many marriages which the Catholic Church does not (this would also include marriages of divorced persons) doesn't mean the state is persecuting the Church or infringing on the rights of the Church or its believers.

  7. Hearing you speak is amazing, Fr. Finding answers to certain prayers. Most of the things you speak of in these videos, I've longed to hear. Thank you. May God continue to bless you and the Word on Fire team. Amen

  8. The situation is sad but the marriage is either a celebration of hetrosexuality or it isn't. If it isn't then there is a side which arbitrarily removes a particular groups rights.

  9. Sexuality is not as simple as many would like to believe. People are not simply "born gay" and thats the end of it. What you are sexually attracted to can, and does certainly change over time, depending on multiple factors both within and beyond one's control. There exists in all of us the best, and worst potentials…anyone who doesn't think they have it within themselves to become a murderer is being intellectually dishonest. Pick up a history book. Read the literature of people who have lived, suffered, and know a thing or two about life (Alexander Solzhenitsyn comes to mind). People can learn to have an appetite for anything, even the worst and most cruel actions that modern people would cringe at. The same thing goes for sexual attraction-you can learn to crave just about any sexual act/thing…there is no limit to man's desire. The liberals of the Western world have fooled people into succumbing to identity politics with the whole gay/sexuality/gender debate. The Catholic Church has sympathy for those who struggle with same sex attraction, as it should. The Church, just like a true friend, will tell you what you NEED to hear and not what you WANT to hear, even if it hurts or causes you distress. Satan is called the great deceiver for a good reason-he is like the false friend, he tells you what you want to hear and what feels good, instead of what will allow you to grow, mature, and know truth. Voila the decadence of the West.

  10. The Catholic Church teaches to save sex for your spouse. It does so because we believe sex is sacred and shouldn’t be taken lightly. We see what free sex does to a society from STD’s,unwanted children, and abortion. Having high morals is not a negative the Church is not a prude. We are taught that their are other ways to intimacy other than sex. I grew up growing to a Catholic school and Church so I know. You would be surprised how the Church goes out if their way to support woman who have children out of wedlock and cannot support themselves. Living by such strict standards isn’t easy…there are plenty of Catholic kids having families out of wedlock, have had abortions, etc..We are all sinners. The churches stance on these matters try’s to impress upon its children what Jesus would have us do.

  11. You're saying that marriage as an institution of law based on the foundation of religion must pay homage to religious beliefs and respect that those benefits afforded religious people are higher than those marriages that afford secular people. I respect your blatant honesty and I enjoy listening to you because you constantly reaffirm my suspicion of faith based logic… Er… Flawgic

  12. Bishop Barron, would you address the struggle I have to give secular marriage rights to gay persons out of compassion? And can you address the morality of outside adults supplying gametes for the creation of children and the moral implications of that? Are these issues related in your view? How does that relate to history?
    Thanks

  13. So what I'm sensing here is that it's unfair for gay promoters to say "You cannot even have an argument against gay marriage because ipso facto it's a bias". So we say that we do have an argument against gay marriage, but what? And I'm thinking that an employer should not be able to refuse to hire a gay person (in the SCOTUS judgement sense) when being gay has no impact on or relevance to the job. But SCOTUS has pronounced on being gay in the most relevant area to sexuality, which is marriage. But gay-marriage advocates set aside the societal impacts of this to focus on the civil equality issues – inheritance, right-to-visit in hospital, etc. etc. And from there we lose the perspectives on long-term societal impacts, simply because they were necessarily excluded from the SCOTUS decision, or were deemed unresolvable, or were judged to be addressable (if not resolvable) through other venues.

  14. Great video!! Have you ever heard of Regina Magazine? They are supposedly a Catholic magazine but they are always posting vague articles about how different priests and bishops are destroying the church. They did one on you. They took a video of yours where you talk about Luther as an interesting historical figure. They said you were favoring Protestantism. I tried to defend you in the comments but they blocked me.

  15. Dear fellow Catholics, to portrait the defeat of religiously sponsored bigotry as opression of the Church is ridiculous! Stop acting like we're the victims just because the SCOTUS said that all U.S. citizens have the right to marry a person of the same gender in Civil Marriage! Civil Marriage is under the sovereignty of the temporal realm, the Sacrament of Marriage IS STILL under Church oversight, so what's the matter!

  16. Jesus said, "First take the rafter out of your own eye, then…" If the Church can't handle its own affairs maybe it shouldn't concern itself with politics.. Maybe the State should meddle in the Church…make some inquiries, make a few hundred arrests, give it some guidelines, assign it a probation officer. We need more State in the Church and less Church in the State.

  17. It is none of your business what two consenting adults d o ! What Holy Mother The Church has done & covered up the abuse of children is everyones business. Have you bothered to confront the cardinals& bishops that hide this. Have you filed a complaint with the police. I didn't think so. You will continue to prance around give "inspiring talks". Nothing will be done & you know it !

  18. In all of Barron's lament about the SCOTUS decision opening the way to charactarize anti-gay marriage/love as an irrational prejudice I dont actually see him even try to make a rational argument for his position.

Just seems like he is just playing the victim card and is worried a bunch of people will think his moral position is wrong.

  19. THREE YEARS HAVE GONE BY. NONE OF THE FEAR MONGERING IN THIS VIDEO HAS COME TRUE. THERE HAS BEEN NO REVOLUTION. THE POPE HASN'T BEEN KIDNAPPED AND HELD HOSTAGE IN WEST HOLLYWOOD. THERE HAS BEEN NO COLLAPSE OF SOCIETY. THERE HAS BEEN NO DESTRUCTION OF THE CHURCH. THERE HAVE BEEN ESSENTIALLY NO NEGATIVE EFFECTS FROM EXTENDING CIVIL RIGHTS TO GAY AMERICANS. BARRON HAS BEEN TOTALLY DISPROVED BY TIME ITSELF.

GAY PEOPLE NOW QUIETLY GET MARRIED IN A CIVIL CEREMONY OR IN A MODERN PROTESTANT CHURCH. THEN THEY GO HOME. THEN THEY GO TO WORK. THEN THEY GO HOME AGAIN. LIFE GOES ON.

THE SKY HAS NOT OPENED UP AND SWALLOWED THE FAITHFUL. THE FEARED HORDES OF NAPOLEAN DICTATORS DESTROYING CATHOLICISM HAVE NOT APPEARED. ALL THIS HYSTERIA, PRESENTED BY BISHOP BARRON IN HIS USUAL COOL SMUG MANNER, LED TO NOTHING.

A FEW GAY COUPLE WANTED A WEDDING CAKE AND FILED SUIT OVER IT. ONE WON THE OTHER LOST.

MEANWHILE, LIFE GOES ON AS IT ALWAYS HAS.

IF THE CATHOLIC CHURCH IS BEING DESTROYED, IT IS FROM WITHIN FROM ALL THE SEX SCANDALS THAT WERE COVERED UP AND NEVER DEALT WITH.

4 BILLION DOLLARS HAS BEEN SPENT BY THE CATHOLIC CHURCH SO FAR SETTLING MOLESTATION CASES. 4 BILLION DOLLARS!

YET BARRON IS, IN HIS ALWAYS COOL SMOOTH STYLE, CONCERNED ABOUT GAY COUPLES GETTING MARRIED (MANY NOT CATHOLIC AND THEREFORE UNDER NO REQUIREMENT TO HONOR CATHOLIC DOGMA). I ACTUALLY LIKE BARRON BUT IN THIS CASE HE WAS MERELY A MOUTHPIECE FOR THE VATICAN. I GUESS THAT IS HIS JOB. BUT I SINCERELY THOUGHT HE WAS MORE INTELLIGENT THAN THIS VIDEO PORTRAYS. HE COMES OFF AS A GLIB PROPAGANDIST. SERIOUSLY, EQUATING GAY MARRIAGE TO THE FRENCH REVOLUTION? HOW PATHETIC.

  20. The modern Catholic Church is corrupt to its core. They have no right to pontificate to anyone about morality when they have been shielding sex predators on a huge scale (500 in one dioceses alone!).

  21. I wish i could just follow you everywhere, and talk to you whenever the words surfaced lol.. very grounding personality.. people are so ungrounded these days.. sometimes i just wish i could go away from everything just to pray, and really feel something form God… like the first time i sat in front of the sacrament. I wish god blessed me more with the whole feelings.. i don't feel whole. You should let me come and live at your place for like a month lol. I used to talk to a lot of people. I don't really trust anyone anymore because there are so many sick people, and we all seem to really disagree.. society is really like that.. very jading to see all the different people who are so twisted, and different.. it gets worse with age too… the longer someone is whoever they are, the more the person is that way.. like a jewish leader like you talked to.. only God can change that guys mind… he is a freaking rabbi! lol.

  22. God will judge America harshly for allowing the abomination of same-sex (i.e. sodomite) marriage. It's a far greater affront to the almighty then abortion, something which the Roman Catholic church obsesses about. After all, abortion is scarcely mentioned in scripture, yet homosexual is proscribed as a grave sin in both the Old and New Testaments. The Roman Catholic Church should–or should have–put the same amount of energy in fighting sodomite marriage that it does in "culture of life" issues. We are in for some tough times.

  23. If it were not for the gays, you would have extremely boring music and even worse art. For the record – make a list of all the gay martyrs put to death by the Catholic church. Hypocrites.

  24. i was raised entirely secularly, but i've recently become quite interested in catholocism and christianity, including attending church services. i also happen to have been engaged in several same-sex relationships.

from my sight, marriage has many different meanings. in the united states, marriage is a legal contract between two people. catholics have a definition that includes marriage distinctly being a man and a woman.

i would argue that any legal marriage should be acceptable by the US government between two consenting adults as a matter of government dictated right. the catholic church should be allowed to say, "in our church, we do not recognize that marriage between two men or two women because of our faith."

  25. Well, I’m sorry, but it is a fundamental right to marry. Opposition to gay marriage is bigotry. It is scientifically proven that people are born gay. So, if, as my old religion teacher used to force on us, everyone is created in the “image and likeness of god,” why is it sinful to be homosexual? Why? This kind of contradiction and ignorance of basic science led me away from your stupidity. I hope you enjoy that I reported you for hate speech.
