On Monday evening, musical diva Cher headlined a LGBTQ virtual fundraiser for Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden that snagged about 500 viewers and raised about $2 million.

“Hi, it’s me, our poster girl since I was nine-years-old,” Cher said, recounting how at that age she “walked into our living room and met two of the most adorable gay hairdressers ever.”

During the event — which featured out politicians like Rep. David Cicilline (D-RI), Sen. Tammy Baldwin (D-WI), Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney (D-NY), and former Democratic presidential candidate Pete Buttigieg — Biden appeared and promised to sign the Equality Act within his first 100 days as president. The Equality Act would add sexual orientation and gender identity as protected classes under federal civil rights legislation.

Cher praised Biden’s early support of marriage equality and his work as vice president during the Obama administration’s repeal of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell,” the military ban on out gay, lesbian, and bisexual service members.

“As president, Joe will build on this progress, reversing destructive policies of the Putin, I mean, Trump administration,” Cher said, referring to Donald Trump’s affectionate political ties to Russian leader Vladimir Putin.

Here is a video of Cher’s appearance at the Biden fundraiser:

“Joe is smart enough, he’s kind enough, he’s strong enough,” Cher continued. “I also know that the person, woman, man, camera, TV, in the White House is an idiot. I mean it. No, the guy is really an idiot.”

Of Cher, Biden said, “She first supported us way back last winter when it took some guts to do so. Fortunately, guts are something Cher has in abundance.”

In addition to her support of Biden, Cher has a long and very vocal Twitter history of opposing Trump.

In June 2015, Cher threatened to move to Jupiter if Trump was ever elected president. In 2016, she openly worried what Trump might do to transgender people such as her son Chaz.

While appearing on late-night talk show host James Corden’s gross-out game segment “Spill Your Guts or Fill Your Guts” in June 2018, Cher couldn’t think of a single nice thing to say about Trump and hoped to eat cow’s tongue instead of praising him.
