  1. Clever politician. He's giving the vote but distancing himself from the outcome. That way he gets to tell pro-gay voters that he gave them a voice, and homophobic voters that he always agreed with them regardless.

  2. I disagree with Christy on this issue, but I love that he's telling the truth, he's going to stick to the promise he ran on, but he ultimately leaves the decision up to the people. We need more politicians like him.

  3. Any politician who goes homophobic will have a hard road as time goes by.
Recently pollsters have asked this question. A survey of 100 REPUBLICANS under the age of 30 were asked "Would you vote for a candidate that is opposed to gay marriage?" Fully 87 percent said NO.
People under 30 have a view of this issue that over 30s don't have. As this demographic grows (and it will) guys like Christie will become unelectable. OK I'm 62. I worked at a Republican leaning polling company a while back.
So this has nothing to do with my feelings or opinion. This is factual.

  4. As a straight man I don’t see why gay people can’t marry? And don’t get into the whole religious comments either. Us straights commit sins like divorcing, rape, killings, have kids we can’t afford, wedlock, pre marital sex, etc.

  5. "The very purpose of a Bill of Rights was to withdraw certain subjects from the vicissitudes of political controversy, to place them beyond the reach of majorities and officials and to establish them as legal principles to be applied by the courts. One's right to life, liberty, and property, to free speech, a free press, freedom of worship and assembly, and other fundamental rights may not be submitted to vote; they depend on the outcome of no elections." — Justice Robert Jackson, 1943
