Could former NFL player Jason Bell be ‘Dancing’ with a male partner?

Jason Bell, the former UCLA and NFL defensive back, will be part of the Strictly Come Dancing cast this upcoming season. And if one dancer has his way, Bell’s dancing partner will be another man.

Anton Du Beke, one of the professional dancers on “Dancing,” has said he would like to be paired up with another man. And given his NFL fandom, he’d love for it to be Bell.

“I’m quite excited about Jason Bell, the American footballer,” Du Beke told Channel 4, according to Gay Times. “He’ll do for me! It’s my guilty pleasure really – American football fan, I love it! I really love it. So I’m excited about him coming on, I can’t wait.”

It’s already been announced that there will be one same-sex team in the competition, with out two-time Olympic gold medalist Nicola Adams teaming up with another (yet-to-be-named) female dancer.

It would make all the sense in the world to then name an all-male dancing duo.

Of course a dancing partner has no relation to sexual orientation. There have been plenty of gay men and women who have been paired publicly with the opposite sex, including Carson Kresley and Adam Rippon on ‘Dancing With The Stars.’

So while it may seem strange to some to envision a straight NFL player dancing with another man, it would be an incredible step toward building understanding. After all, it’s just dancing.

A request for comment from Bell’s publicist was not answered.

Bell was an NFL player for seven seasons, from 2001 to 2007, for three different teams. He was on injured reserve with the New York Giants when they toppled the then-undefeated New England Patriots in Super Bowl XLII. He is an NFL commentator in the U.K. and hosts a podcast with former Giants teammate Osi Umenyiora.
