A gay couple in Halifax, Canada, awoke on Thursday morning (26 July) to their home covered in homophobic graffiti.

Tim Gottschall and his partner, Devin Moore, saw the homophobic slurs and say they no longer feel safe in their own home.

However, when a drag queen former resident of the apartment complex saw the graffiti online, he decided to organize a march through the neighborhood.

What happened?

‘I was sick to my stomach and I was shocked, Gottschall told CBC News. ‘I could hardly talk.’

Gottschall found the front of his home in Ocean Breeze Estates, an apartment complex in Darmouth, covered in the vile epithets.

Property managers painted over the graffiti while the couple called the local police authorities.

Police confirmed they received a complaint about the incident on Kilkee Gate just before 9am.

‘Somebody’s gunning for us’

Gottschall said he has been scared to return home.

He told the network: ‘We thought that society is a little more on our side, more accepting.

Moreover, Gottschall explained how, for the last two weeks, they’ve also been receiving repeated phone calls.

On Tuesday night, their car alarm went off and they found their car scratched.

‘Somebody’s gunning for us. I don’t know what’s going on, but it seems to be getting worse,’ said Gottschall.

‘Show off your magnificent queerness’

Photos of the graffiti quickly circulated online, and one person to see them was Rogue Fatale.

The drag queen and former resident of the complex was shocked. But knew exactly what to do.

Throw a Pride stroll.

In a Facebook event page, Fatale explained how they ‘have decided to put on some fabulous drag and take a stroll through my old neighborhood.

‘I need the rest of the community to know that one person’s actions will not quiet us during Pride.

‘Wanna come out and show off your magnificent queerness?’

The stroll is set for tomorrow (27 July) at the Ocean Breeze Estates for 2.30pm.
