End Slaughter of Trans Women of Color

Caitlyn Jenner tried to leave her past association with the Republican Party behind as she took to the stage on Saturday at the Women’s March in Los Angeles and spoke out for transgender rights.

“Together as women, trans women and cis[gender] women, we have the power to influence our communities, our families, our friends, and colleagues, and turn this country around,” Jenner told the crowd.

The former Olympian athlete also referenced the murders of trans women of color. There were at least 21 trans people murdered last year, all but one being women of color.

“The time is now. Women in Hollywood and across the nation are energized,” Jenner said. “It is damn time we stop the slaughter of trans women of color.” Watch a clip below.

Previously, Jenner identified as a Republican and even supported Donald Trump for president. After Trump’s numerous attacks on the trans community — which include barring them from military service — Jenner changed her endorsement.

“Sadly, I was wrong [about Trump],” Jenner said in 2018. “The reality is that the trans community is being relentlessly attacked by this president. He has ignored our humanity. He has insulted our dignity. He has made trans people into political pawns as he whips up animus against us in an attempt to energize the most right-wing segment of his party.”
