GOP Candidate Who Pushed Deranged ‘QAnon’ Theory Arrested For Child Porn Possession

Ben Gibson, who unsuccessfully ran for Congress in November, was arrested in Louisiana this week on four counts of child pornography involving juveniles under the age of 13 (possession), Louisiana Attorney General Jeff Landry announced today.

“My office is committed to using every tool we have to protect Louisiana’s children,” Landry said. “We will continue to collaborate with our local, state, and federal partners to bring child predators to justice.”

According to Bossier Parish Sheriff’s Office booking records, the 34-year-old was booked into Bossier Parish Maximum Security Jail Wednesday morning.

Gibson, who was an active Airman at Barksdale Air Force Base, ran as a Republican challenger in a four-way race for the U.S. House District 4 Congressional seat and lost to Rep. Mike Johnson, who won re-election.

Gibson previously told KSLA in an interview during his congressional bid that he worked for the Bossier City Fire Department. A spokesperson for the fire department says Gibson has never worked for the department, nor has he worked for the City of Bossier in any capacity.

Jared Kutz, 30, of Bossier City was also arrested as a result of the investigation and charged with two counts of pornography.

As Media Matters reported in January, Gibson has endorsed the “QAnon” conspiracy theory, using its hashtag multiple times on his Facebook campaign page and other social media accounts.

The QAnon cult believes in a disproven and discredited far-right conspiracy theory alleging that a cabal of Satan-worshipping pedophiles is running a global child sex-trafficking ring and plotting against US president Donald Trump, who is fighting the cabal. QAnon also commonly asserts that Trump is planning a day of reckoning known as the “Storm”, when thousands of members of the cabal will be arrested.
