How Karlie Kloss Really Felt About “Project Runway” Designer’s Trump Shade

Karlie Kloss swung by the Watch What Happens Live clubhouse last night, and naturally, host Andy Cohen couldn’t help but ask about the recent viral moment from Project Runway.

In case you missed it, New Jersey-based fashion designer, drag artist, and Ali Forney Center communications manager Tyler Neasloney was recently on the chopping block for his upcycle look, which had judge Nina Garcia saying, “It’s not modern, it’s not innovative.”

Neasloney was ultimately eliminated, but some Project Runway viewers believe he was actually sent home for the major shade he threw at Kloss. After judge Brandon Maxwell said he “could not see Karlie wearing it anywhere, honestly,” Neasloney—whom fans know and love for his speedy comebacks—replied, “Not even to dinner with the Kushners?”

Needless to say, the shade took Kloss—and the other designers watching backstage—by surprise, as their jaws hit the floor in unison.

A clip of the moment went viral, and when Cohen asked Kloss about the quip, she said that she was “honored to be one of the first memes of the decade.”

“Honestly, the real tragedy of this whole thing is that no one is talking about how terrible that dress was. That’s why he went home. I would not wear that dress to any dinner,” she continued.

For those of you who don’t know, Kloss is married to Joshua Kushner—brother of Jared Kushner, a.k.a. Ivanka Trump’s husband. Kloss has never kept her marriage a secret, but it isn’t something that usually comes up on Project Runway.

Cohen pressed Kloss on her political views, and assured the millions of Project Runway fans that she would not be voting for Trump in 2020:

I’m sure I’m not the only person in this country who does not necessarily agree with their family on politics. I voted as a Democrat in 2016 and I plan to do the same in 2020.

At least that’s… something?

I write about drag queens. Dolly Parton once ruffled my hair and said I was “just the cutest thing ever.”
