Men who participate in group sex are being urged to get tested up to four times a year under revised national guidelines for HIV and sexually transmitted infections (STI) testing.
Men who have episodes of unprotected anal sex, have had more than ten sexual partners in the past six months, or use recreational drugs during sex, as well as all sexually active HIV-positive men, are also urged to get tested every three months.
The guidelines are issued by NSW Health’s STI Programs Unit and are updated from 2010, which previously stated higher risk groups be tested every 3-6 months.
