King Princess Channels the ’90s in New “Cheap Queen” Music Video

King Princess just dropped a music video for her single “Cheap Queen,” and it’s the perfect watch for your daily dose of nostalgia.

The new video, which follows the out singer-songwriter’s single release last month, sees King Princess (née Mikaela Straus) wake with a start in front of her TV after a feverdream-y musical interlude. From there, the video is a wild ride, including cameos from KP’s friends in and out of drag, a comically oversized joint, and a mini ’80s-style beauty pageant.

Did King Princess take a hint from this year’s camp-themed Met Gala? Who’s to say?

At only 20 years old, King Princess has exploded onto the pop music scene, rising to prominence in the span of a year after her debut EP, Make My Bed, garnered millions of streams and plays. She’s since performed at Coachella and headlined her own tour. Her collaborators include music industry veteran Fiona Apple—and her ex-girlfriend, actress Amandla Stenberg.

She’s used her platform to follow in the footsteps of queer pop pioneers Janelle Monáe and Hayley Kiyoko, too: Her October 2018 single “Pussy Is God” left little to the imagination (and, truthfully, we wouldn’t have it any other way.)

Watch the full music video below, and let us know: Can this “Cheap Queen” really make grown men cry?
