Kylie Minogue Teases New “Grown-Up Disco” Music

Kylie Minogue is hanging up her cowboy boots.

The “Dancing” diva is taking over Channel 4 in the U.K. on Christmas night with her new special, Kylie’s Secret Night, followed by her Golden tour and Glastonbury performances from earlier this year. In a new interview with The Guardian, she sat down with her friend, comedian—and RuPaul’s Drag Race U.K. judge—Alan Carr to discuss her new special, and what’s in store for her next.
 

After her most recent release, Golden, Kylie became a country music queen, but she teases that her next music phase will shine more like a disco ball than a rhinestone:

“This year, with Glastonbury, with this TV show, it’s marking this point in time, but what’s great is what’s happening next. I’m really jazzed about [the music] to come,” she tells Carr. “I think it’s going to be getting back on the dance floor, like grown-up disco; that’s where I want it to be. Shimmery.”

“Yes, a rest will definitely do me the world of good! After that I’ll mostly be writing and prepping for the next album,” she teases further.

“It’s been such an inspiring year and I think that both me and my audience are ready for some new music. Let’s see where the journey takes us next!”

This past summer, to support her new greatest hits compilation, Step Back In Time–The Definitive Collection, the Aussie diva released a new track, “New York City,” which she debuted at an intimate show at New York’s Bowery Ballroom back in 2018.

“This particular one didn’t fit the framework of the album [Golden], but since we’re here in New York City,” she told the audience, “I thought I would do something I have never done before… This is just for you guys tonight, I think you will be able to sing along faster than you realize.”

“New York City” was a staple on our Pride 2019 playlists so if that song is any indication of her next phase, we can’t wait to hit the dance floor when she drops her new album—hopefully—in 2020.
