LGBTQ artists and performers won big at last night’s 2020 Grammy Awards.
Lil Nas X, who came out as gay last year, won two out of his six nominations for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance and Best Music Video for his 2019 hit “Old Town Road.”
He also took the stage to perform “Old Town Road” and “Rodeo” with Billy Ray Cyrus, Korean boy band BTS and yodeler Mason Ramsey.
Brandi Carlile, who came out in 2002, won Best Country Song for “Bring My Flowers Now,” which she co-wrote with Tanya Tucker. Carlile and Tucker later performed the song at the awards show.
Lady Gaga snagged an award for Best Song Written for Visual Media for “I’ll Never Love Again” from the A Star Is Born soundtrack. The pop queen also won for Best Compilation Soundtrack for Visual Media for that same soundtrack.
Out DJ Tracy Young won for Best Remixed Recording Award for “I Rise (Tracy Young’s Pride Intro Radio Remix),” a remix of Madonna’s “I Rise.” She is the first woman and the first lesbian producer to win in this category.
“We made history, ladies,” said Young during her acceptance speech. “I proudly accept this on behalf of all female producers who have been overlooked.”
Out rapper Tyler the Creator won Best Rap Album for “Igor.”
Out performer Demi Lovato sang “Anyone” at the awards show. Lovato has said that she recorded the song four days before her overdose.
One of the funniest moments of the night came when Billy Porter introduced the Jonas Brothers, using a line from Kinky Boots promotions: “Ladies and Gentlemen and those who haven’t decided yet.”
Porter turned heads on the red carpet when he showed up wearing a magnificently fringed sparkling blue outfit designed Baja East, which included a motorized fringe hat that opened to reveal Billy’s face.
Stylist Sam Ratelle told E! News that he was actually carrying a remote control that opened the hat whenever Billy gave a signal.

Lil Nas X hit the red carpet with a pink leather suit from Versace, a nod to his country hit from last year.
