A pro-Trump couple was caught on video painting over a “Black Lives Matter” mural in Martinez, California, in front of the county courthouse, reports local NBC affiliate KNTV.
The city granted Black Lives Matter activists permission to paint the mural on Saturday morning. Hours later, the couple began painting over the letters of the mural with black paint.
A video of the incident shows the pair arguing with activists and saying that “all lives matter” and that police killings are a consequence of people who resist arrest.
The woman, who was wearing an American flag T-shirt, can be seen in the video painting over the mural while a man wearing a Trump 2020 shirt and a “Make American Great Again” hat hurled insults at a bystander.
“No one wants you here,” the man says. “No one wants Black Lives Matter here.”
“All lives matter, you f*cking punk!” the man adds.
“This is racism is what it is,” he says in another video, pointing at the Black Lives Matter mural. “There is no oppression. There is no racism. It’s a leftist lie. It’s a lie from the media, the liberal left.”
“Keep America Great Again,” the man shouts before telling bystanders that slaves were freed by his “forefathers.”
“Why don’t you guys learn about history and the Emancipation Proclamation act. Yeah, that’s right. Abraham Lincoln – they’re only free because of our forefathers,” he tells the crowd.

Volunteers spent hours painting a #BlackLivesMatter mural in #Martinez, which was city sanctioned just for it to be vandalized. A woman painted over part of the mural and volunteers said she and a man were yelling “all lives matter.” Volunteers ended up fixing the mural. @KTVU pic.twitter.com/uxwJM0zJaD

“I can’t believe that this is happening right in front of my face,” a witness later told KNTV. “I expected something to happen, but when I saw this, I got a little excited and tried to make sure and get it in and film everything that happened.”
Activists were able to record the license plate number of the truck the woman and man were driving, and the Martinez Police Department is currently investigating the situation, the local outlet reports.
