Matt Bomer Will Be Back for the “Will & Grace” Series Finale

The secret is out!

Matt Bomer sat down this week on The Ellen DeGeneres Show with special guest host Sean Hayes to promote his role as a family man with secrets in the third season of The Sinner, which premieres February 6 on USA Network.

Naturally, Hayes asked Bomer about his experience working on Will & Grace. Bomer returned for the current final season of the NBC revival as news anchor McCoy Whitman. McCoy and Will (Eric McCormack) had gotten engaged in the second season finale but split up earlier this season.

“The best gig in the business,” Bomer said. “I had the best time. I think it’s the best-kept secret in Hollywood. You guys are obviously such incredible professionals, but I could drop the kids off at school, go to work, finish, and pick them up from school. It was just the most humane hours I’ve ever had as an actor.”

Another secret best unkept? Bomer revealed that he was “lucky enough” to be in the upcoming Will & Grace series finale.

“They added a scene at the very last minute,” he shared about filming. “I think I got to read it twice, rehearse it once, and then I think we taped it once, with two different endings, and that was it.”

Bomer, who headlined USA’s White Collar for six seasons, earned an Emmy nomination and Golden Globe Award for his performance in HBO’s The Normal Heart. The 42-year-old Doom Patrol star made his Broadway debut in the 2018 revival of the groundbreaking gay drama The Boys in the Band, which producer Ryan Murphy is adapting for Netflix.

Will & Grace, which ran on NBC for eight seasons from 1998 to 2006, returned in 2017 with all four original leads—Hayes, McCormack, Debra Messing, and Megan Mullally—to become the network’s top-rated comedy. NBC announced last summer that the third season of the revival, the sitcom’s 11th season overall, would be its last.

“We think of the Will & Grace reboot episodes the way Karen Walker thinks of martinis—51 is not enough, 53 is too many. That is why, after consulting with the cast, we all have decided this will be the final season of Will & Grace,” creators Max Mutchnick and David Kohan said in a joint statement with director Jimmy Burrows.

The series finale of Will & Grace will air later this year.
