Jordan Steffy, the bullied gay teenager who went viral this week when he punched one of his homophobic tormentors, revealed in a new interview that he had been relentlessly bullied since he came out in seventh grade.
Steffy, a junior at LaPorte High School in Indiana, explained in a new interview with Tamron Hall that he decided to confront his bully after he was shown a picture he had posted to Snapchat that contained anti-gay slurs.

He told Hall that he didn’t know the other student in the now-viral video of the confrontation, but explains that a classmate had shown him a screenshot of the student’s hateful message.
“That hit me like, I don’t even know who this is,” Steffy said about seeing the social media post. “I didn’t even know what to do.”
He says he approached the bully before class started and asked him about the post.
“I had walked into the class and I had the post right on my phone because I was going to ask him why he posted it,” Steffy said. “And I walked to his desk, I met him there, and I showed him, ‘What is this?’”
“It’s just a post.” the bully dismissively responded.
“About me right?” Steffy responded.
“Yeah, and what are you going to do about it?” the bully fired back.
Steffy admits to shoving the bully first.
“When you shoved him first, was that about him, or just years of this, and he’s the breaking point?” Hall asked.
“It was years and years, over and built up,” he responded.
“In that video, [the bully] called [your son a fag*ot] multiple times. When you saw the video, Angie, and you saw what he was going through. It’s one thing for your child to come home and say I’m being bullied. It’s another thing to see it on video. What did you think?” Hall asked Jordan’s mother, Angie Steffy.
“It just makes me mad,” she said, fighting back tears. “I’m tired of it. I’m tired of him going through that. I’m happy he stood up for himself. I’m not happy he was cussing like that. I don’t like him hitting. But he knows – he had enough. He had enough.”
Steffy was suspended after the fight and he is now being homeschooled after his mother saw how he was being treated at school.
“It seemed like I was getting in more trouble for reporting [the bullying] than I was if I didn’t say anything at all,” he said. “It was doing me more harm than it was good.”
