NBA player Dwyane Wade clapped back at people on social media who criticized his son for wearing what they considered girls’ clothes.

The attacks started when Wade’s wife Gabrielle Union posted a picture of their family on Instagram for Thanksgiving. Some of her followers noticed that Wade’s son Zade, 12, had a crop top and fake nails on.

Here are some of the comments the picture received:

Why does his son have his nails done and dressed like a girl?

Nails done and crop top. where is this child biological mother.

REMEMBER LATER ON ALL THOSE STD, AND HIV, ALL THAT COMES WITH THIS SICK INSANE MESS SO PRAYING THAT THAT LITTLE BOY CHANGE AND BE A BOY. WHAT YOU WAS BORN AS

Disgusting, and quite frankly sad. #Genocide

So Wade decided to stand up for his son. He took to Twitter, where he first retweeted someone with a supportive message and used the “100” emoji.

As a parent my only goal is that my kids feel that I see them, love them, and support them,” Wade tweeted, responding to another supporter.

In another tweet, he responded to the hate: “Stupidity is a part of this world we live in – so I get it. But here’s the thing – I’ve been chosen to lead my family, not y’all. So we will continue to be us and support each other with pride, love, and a smile!”

If only all fathers could be this supportive of their gender creative children.
