NYC Mayoral Candidate Burns Hand While Holding Face Mask Burning Stunt

Republican mayoral hopeful Curtis Sliwa accidentally burned his hand during a mask-burning event in Manhattan on Thursday to celebrate newly loosened face-mask restrictions in the Empire State.

“It feels great,” said Curtis Sliwa, the Guardian Angels founder, as he torched several disposable masks on a rod outside Empire Steakhouse in Midtown.

“It’s great liberation. It’s mask equinox.”

“Sliwa had promised an inferno where attendees could torch their face coverings while members of ’70s disco group The Trammps sang their hit ‘Disco Inferno’ — though the blue medical masks, made partially from plastic, appeared more to sizzle and melt onto the makeshift spit-roast once they were finally set alight,” reports The New York Post.

“Hopefully one day we can burn all these masks and just becomes a part of our history,” said Sliwa, who had advertised the event as “mask liberation.”

A video from the event shows Sliwa holding his hand near the flames, and photo later shows him submerging his hand in a bucket of ice water as he continued to burn masks.
