Rapper wishes God would make Lil Nas X overdose instead of DMX

Out musician Lil Nas X is enjoying the success amidst the controversy around his latest single and music video. While “Montero (Call Me By Your Name)” just became the #1 song in the country, fellow hip hop artists are reminding him that homophobia still persists within the music industry.

Up-and-coming Detroit rapper Sada Baby delivered the latest instance when he posted online that he wished God was punishing Lil Nas X rather than DMX, who recently suffered from a drug overdose and is reportedly on-and-off life support.

“Lord we said Nas X not DMX,” the 28 year old “Whole Lotta Choppas” rapper wrote in an Instagram Story to over 1.1 million followers, that he subsequently deleted, on April 4. Unfortunately for him, screenshots had already been taken and shared before he could erase its existence.

This is far from Sada Baby’s first controversial statements, and he’s notably appeared to comment on Lil Nas X specifically before as well.

In October, at the height of his growing popularity after rap superstar Nicki Minaj appeared on a remix of “Whole Lotta Choppas,” a user on Instagram — with a username close to Lil Nas X’s actual username and a profile picture that depicted him — commented, demanding that Sada Baby promote the remix.

“suck my dick f***ot ass fan page,” he said in response.

Those comments right at the rise of Sada Baby’s prominence bought attention to past posts online by the rapper, where he made homophobic and other inflammatory statements like wanting to ‘rape’ someone and wanting singer Beyoncé (who he referred to as “dat bitch”) to die.

“I’m fucked up in the head kuz that’s how I was raised. God n my grandmas the only judges I care for,” he said in response to the backlash at the time. Days later, in an apology video, he claimed that his past tweets were “old shit that you can’t judge me on.”

“As far as the homophobic tweets,” he claimed, “I got homosexuals that work at my label, you feel me, that’s personally worked with me. I deal with him twice, two, three times out the month.”

Sada Baby has yet to issue an apology for these comments, but Lil Nas X has already responded.

The often-joking entertainer tweeted in response to XXL‘s coverage of the comments, “this is so fucked up omg,” with a tearful emoji, “everyone stream the number 1 smash hit Montero (Call Me By Your Name) out now on all platforms!”
