Braunwyn Windham-Burke, one of the stars of Real Housewives of Orange County, has come out as lesbian.

Speaking to LGBT+ non-profit GLAAD, the 43-year-old said she finally felt ‘comfortable in my own skin’.

Windham-Burke says: ‘I’m finally comfortable enough to say: I like women. I’m gay. I’m a member of the LGBTQIA+ community. I’m a lesbian.

‘And it has taken me 42 years to say that, but I’m so proud of where I am right now and I’m so happy where I am. To be able to be comfortable in my own skin after so long is just so nice.’

Windham-Burke also said becoming sober helped with her journey to self-acceptance:

‘This year, I got sober, which I know there is a correlation between the two. I know that when you get sober and you start doing the work that goes into that, you start realizing a lot of the reasons you drank had to do with who you were on the inside…’

Planning to stay married to husband

However, Windam-Burke said despite her sexuality she still intends to stay married to her husband, Sean Burke:

‘Honestly, we are in uncharted territory. I don’t have a role model for this. I don’t have anyone to go to for answers. So right now, we’re just doing our own way.

‘You know, Sean and I are still married. I plan on staying married… We’re raising the kids together. He’s my best friend. He knows the girl I’m dating; her name is Kris…

‘I mean, we go to parties together! She came over the other night, hung out with the family, had dinner with us. I mean, it’s only as weird as you make it.’

Meanwhile, on the subject of family life, she also talked about supporting her son Jacob doing drag.

‘I knew putting Jacob on TV, doing something that was very personal to him, could have some backlash.

‘I have been very, very, very pleasantly surprised that, at least from my social media, it has been almost 100% positive. And just supporting him…people who are DMing him, welcoming him to the community.

‘It’s been like the most beautiful thing…I think with the temperament of the country right now, sometimes you forget how many good people there are. At least I have at times. Just to see the amount of love and acceptance for my son, it has been beautiful.’

‘This is my time’

Moreover, the actress also opened up about her sexuality in an Instagram post.

She wrote: ‘It feels so good to finally be living my truth. I am a lesbian. At 43 years old, I’ve finally been able to access this part of myself and I’ve realized there are no rules about when someone should come out. This is my time.’
