We’ve known Sade is a soldier of love for years, but it turns out her son is, too.
Izaak Theo, the 23-year-old child of the “Smooth Operator” singer, came out as trans in 2016. Now, Izaak is opening up to his followers about his recent “painful” gender-confirming surgery.
“This process is trying, tiring, painful, emotionally exhausting, physically exhausting, uncomfortable (like I can’t sleep like a normal human being rn lol),” Izaak posted on Instagram, captioning a picture of him lying in a hospital bed.
“I often ask myself, ’Why the fuck do I have to endure this to be who I am,’” he continued. “But at the end of the day this is the path that was laid out for me and I’ll walk it to the end.”
Izaak also gives a shout out to his family, including his mother, writing: “Big up to my Mumma, Pappa, family, and friends for all the support you give me on the daily. It’ll never be forgotten.”
Izaak is the only child of legendary singer Sade Adu and Jamaican-American producer Bob Morgan. They raised him together during Sade’s decade-long break from music between 2000’s Lovers Rock and 2010’s Soldier of Love.
His surgery update was posted a few days ago. Since then, Izaak has posted more lighthearted pics, including one of him on an inflatable flamingo, and one that was snapped by Sade herself.
After all, she’ll always be by his side.
