A tanker truck was seen barreling through a crowd of thousands of peaceful protesters marching on the I-35W bridge in Minneapolis on Sunday evening.

After marching from U.S. Bank Stadium, thousands of protesters flooded onto Interstate 35W in Minneapolis on Sunday, shutting it down.

The shocking incident, which was broadcast live on ABC-affiliate KSTP just before 6 p.m. Sunday, sent hundreds of protesters scrambling to get out of the path of the speeding tanker.

Some marchers could be seen clinging to the side of the overpass

Minneapolis police surrounded the tanker after it rolled to a stop in the middle of the bridge, guns drawn, reports the Star Tribune.

It was unclear whether anyone was injured or taken into custody.

Drew Valle, a special education teacher at Minneapolis Washburn High School, said cars still driving on the roadway were going slowly to the right of the throngs of people when the tanker came speeding towards the demonstrators.

“He wasn’t stopping. He was beeping loudly and driving into a crowd of people,” said Valle who was visibly shaken after the incident. “That’s the same kind of malice that brought us her. It’s a callous disregard for someone’s humanity.”

St. Paul police confirmed to the Star Tribune that the Justice for George Floyd march appears to be organized and peaceful.
