With Pride festivals around the nation canceled or postponed, is bringing the celebration to you with our new series “Flashes of Pride.” We’ll look back at some of our community’s finest moments from the past few years as a reminder that no matter what life throws our way, queer people will fight our way through it and dance when we hit the other side.

Angel Cox-Colbert saw what happened when her daughter’s friend came out. The reaction on social media wasn’t spiteful, but it was less than supportive.

“I read the thread of his post. No one was threatening or aggressive. It was a lot of religious rhetoric, which is aggressive in a ‘nice’ way,” she told . “My heart sank and blood boiled with each comment.”

Spurred to action, Cox-Colbert took to social media herself to share some do’s and don’ts for straight people when someone comes out to them.

Two years later, this mom’s post should still be getting likes and shared like crazy every pride month.
