The 1975 singer Matt Healy still stands behind his same-sex kiss at a recent concert in Dubai, where homosexuality is illegal.
The British-born vocalist and guitarist has once again defended his choice to smooch another man from the audience at the group’s first (and possibly last) show in the United Arab Emirates. The lip-lock in question occurred earlier this month, and prompted Healy to open up to fans on Twitter about his “behaviour” in a country where queerness is considered culturally taboo.
Thank you Dubai you were so amazing. I don’t think we’ll be allowed back due to my ‘behaviour’ but know that I love you and I wouldn’t have done anything differently given the chance again

At The 1975’s recent Reading Festival set in the U.K., Healy doubled down on his actions.
“I really liked that boy,” he told the audience between songs, reports BBC News, “and I am pretty sure he liked that kiss… The gig was amazing and everybody that was there was in support of [our kiss]. What happened was a genuine, intimate, human moment between two people that was consensual.”
“It is not me that needs to change,” Healy added. “It is the world that needs changing.”

This isn’t the first time the singer-guitarist and his bandmates have vocally supported queer issues. The June 2018, the group donated funds to the creation of London’s first-ever LGBTQ community center, as Rolling Stone reported.
