Trump Jokes About ‘Calling Off’ The 2020 Election And Serving A ‘3rd Term’ In Campaign Speech

President Trump turned a visit to a Shell natural gas plant in rural western Pennsylvania on Tuesday to again float the possibility of him serving a third term in office.

“In 2020, we’re running, so you’d better get out there and make sure we win,” the president said in his speech that was supposed to focus on American energy dominance and manufacturing.

Addressing workers at the yet-to-be-completed plant in Monaca, Pennsylvania, Trump joked about serving more than two terms.

“Can you imagine if I got a fair press? I mean, we’re leading without it,” Trump said.

“Can you imagine if these people treated me fairly?” he asked. “The election would be over. Have they ever called off an election before? Just said, ‘Look, let’s go, four more years.’ Yeah. And then you want to really drive them crazy, go to ‘hashtag, third term, hashtag, fourth term,’ you’ll drive them totally crazy.”

Trump has previously joked about serving more than two terms, including at a campaign rally in May, when he told a crowd that he could potentially serve a fifth term in the White House with their help.

In April he told a crowd that he might remain in the Oval Office “at least for 10 or 14 years.”

In June Trump suggested in a tweet that his supporters might “demand” that he serve more than two terms as president.

That same month, Trump shared a doctored video depicting him campaigning for office indefinitely on the cover of Time magazine.

Trump also used his speech to attack his potential Democratic rival Elizabeth Warren with a racial slur, a racist term previously condemned by the general secretary of the Alliance of Colonial Era Tribes when Trump used it in 2017.

“We’ll have to hit Pocahontas again if she does win,” Trump told the Pennsylvania crowd, adding soon thereafter, “What a group, Pocahontas and Sleepy Joe.”
