President Trump has sent a bizarre six-page letter to Nancy Pelosi on Tuesday, accusing the House Speaker of leading a “libelous and vicious crusade” against him on the eve of the House impeachment vote and accusing Democrats of having “cheapened the importance of the very ugly word.”
“More due process was afforded to those accused in the Salem Witch Trials,” Trump complained.
Trump charged Pelosi with harassing an “innocent person.”
“You pursued your next libelous and vicious crusade-you engineered an attempt to frame and defame an innocent person. All of this was motivated by personal political calculation,” he claimed.
“You are declaring open war on American Democracy,” he continued. “You dare to invoke the Founding Fathers in pursuit of this election-nullification scheme-yet your spiteful actions display unfettered contempt for America’s founding and your egregious conduct threatens to destroy that which our Founders pledged their very lives to build.”
Trump complained the Democrats were “obstructing justice” but did not explain what he meant.
“You are the ones interfering in America’s elections,” he wrote. “You are the ones subverting America’s Democracy. You are the ones Obstructing Justice. You are the ones bringing pain and suffering to our Republic for your own selfish personal, political, and partisan gain”
“No intelligent person believes what you are saying,” he added.
The House is expected to vote on two articles of impeachment – abuse of power and obstruction of Congress – on Wednesday afternoon.
