Trump Tweets It’s “My Great Honor” To Be The “Most Pro-Gay President In American History”
Donald Trump tweeted that it’s his “great honor!!” in response to a video he retweeted late Wednesday featuring Richard Grenell, the former U.S. ambassador to Germany turned Trump attack dog on Twitter, who praised him as “the most pro-gay president in American history.”
The video, produced by Log Cabin Republicans, makes the case that Trump is the better candidate for LGBTQ rights by contrasting his record to former Vice President Joe Biden.
As The Blade notes, many details about both individuals are omitted or distorted in the video.
Trump, however, had opposed same-sex marriage throughout his 2016 campaign and said he’d “strongly consider” appointing justices that would overturn the Supreme Court ruling in favor of marriage equality.
The Trump administration has opposed LGBTQ rights in court, banned transgender people from the military, rolled back protections for LGBTQ people in several executive departments, expanded religious exemptions to allow nonprofits and businesses to discriminate against LGBTQ people, and given anti-LGBTQ hate groups more access to the White House.
