Trump’s Bible Study Teacher Claims Coronavirus Is God’s Punishment For Gay People

Ralph Drollinger, a minister who leads a weekly White House Bible study group for President Donald Trump’s cabinet, has claimed that the deadly coronavirus pandemic is in part on God’s punishment for LGBTQ people.

In a rambling Bible study guide posted to his blog this week, Drollinger states that “some leading evangelicals” believe that “America is now experiencing God’s judgment.”

“Relative to the coronavirus pandemic crisis, this is not God’s abandonment wrath nor His cataclysmic wrath, rather it is sowing and reaping wrath,” Drollinger wrote in a series of posts. “A biblically astute evaluation of the situation strongly suggests that America and other countries of the world are reaping what China has sown due to their leaders’ recklessness and lack of candor and transparency.”

As The Intercept points out, Drollinger rails against the “religion of environmentalism” and people who express a “proclivity toward lesbianism and homosexuality,” who he claims have infiltrated “high positions in our government, our educational system, our media and our entertainment industry” and “are largely responsible for God’s consequential wrath on our nation.”

Drollinger also claims that the U.S. is not as bad as Sodom and Gomorrah: “Abraham, if he were to plead with God for America, would have a much stronger case than he did pleading with God for Sodom and Gomorrah.”

This means that “we’ll soon see a human cure for the coronavirus,” he adds.

According to The Intercept, Drollinger’s weekly Bible study sessions include several members of the Cabinet, notably Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, Housing and Urban Development Secretary Ben Carson, Education Secretary Betsy DeVos, and Health Secretary Alex Azar. Carson and Azar, notably, are members of the coronavirus task force guiding the federal government response to the pandemic.
