WOMEN REPRESENTED: THE 100 YEAR BATTLE FOR EQUALITY 10 p.m. on CNN. Last Tuesday, the United States celebrated the 100th anniversary of the ratification of the 19th Amendment, which gave women the right to vote. To commemorate the milestone, CNN’s Erin Burnett takes a look back at the history of the women’s suffrage movement, and examines where the country currently stands on gender equality and how far it still has to go. The 90-minute special features conversations with Melinda Gates, Roxane Gay, Cecile Richards and others who discuss the prospects of America’s first woman president, inequities in the workplace and the legacy of the #MeToo movement.
SECRETS IN THE BASEMENT 8 p.m. on Lifetime. The couple at the center of this movie decides to take the leap many city-dwellers might be fantasizing about these days: relocating to the suburbs after finding their dream home. But their reality quickly turns into a nightmare after they meet the mysterious man who designed the house, and discover that they aren’t the only ones who have been living in their beautiful new piece of real estate.

TESLA (2020) Rent or buy on iTunes, Google Play and other streaming platforms and pay TV operators. Michael Almereyda’s film takes an unconventional approach to its look at the life and genius of Nikola Tesla, “a fixture in the cool-nerd pantheon,” as A.O. Scott described in his New York Times review. Ethan Hawke stars as the inventor who, despite anticipating much of the technology we use today, is still shrouded in a bit of mystery. Rather than retrace every moment of significance from its subject’s life, Scott wrote that the film is more a vehicle for Almereyda’s thoughts “about fame, physics, capitalism and the myriad other issues that flutter through the movie like moths, with Tesla as the glowing enigma that attracts them.”
SON OF THE WHITE MARE (1981) Watch through virtual cinemas. This animated film, from the Hungarian director Marcell Jankovics, has been described as “a bedtime story on acid.” Through its vibrant color palette and psychedelic transitions, it tells the story of a man called Treeshaker, the human son born to a horse. Blessed with incredible physical strength, Treeshaker sets off to find his long-lost brothers and ventures into the underworld to save three princesses from a horde of dragons. In her review for The New York Times, Maya Phillips wrote, “This should-be classic, with its kaleidoscopic animation and vibrant mythos, is a unique contribution to the animated canon.” It’s also a Critic’s Pick.
CHEMICAL HEARTS (2020) Stream on Amazon. Austin Abrams (“Euphoria”) and Lili Reinhart (“Riverdale”) star in this coming-of-age drama. In the film, which was adapted from a young adult novel by Krystal Sutherland, Abrams plays Henry, a high school student who is creatively and emotionally adrift until he meets Grace (Reinhart), a new transfer student. After they’re appointed co-editors of the school paper, the teenagers begin hanging out, and Henry becomes more intrigued by Grace, who’s coping with a recent trauma.
