While Cruz Flew Back From Cancun In Shame, AOC Raised $1 Million For Hard-Hit Texans

Texas Sen. Ted Cruz (R) confirmed on Thursday that he and his family flew down to Cancun, Mexico, as millions of Texans were left without electricity to heat their homes due to blackouts caused by a brutal winter storm.

After initially staying mum on the subject as fellow passengers shared photographs on social media of what appeared to be Cruz and his family on a plane to Cancun, Cruz said his family “lost heat and power too” but went on the trip because his daughters urged him to go.

“With school cancelled for the week, our girls asked to take a trip with friends. Wanting to be a good dad, I flew down with them last night and am flying back this afternoon,” Cruz said in a statement.

Cruz booked the return leg Thursday at 6 a.m., after initially planning on a Saturday return, NBC News reported, citing a source with knowledge of the situation.

While the Texas Senator flew back in shame from his Cancun crash pad at the Ritz Carlton, a Congresswoman from New York City stepped up and went to work for his hard-hit constituents.

During Cruz’s absence, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez managed to raise over $1 million for the people of Texas. The funds will be distributed to five Texas charities.

“Nearly 3 million households across Texas are still without power – and more snow and ice is expected in the coming days,” the fundraiser reads. “These groups are working around the clock to assist houseless, hungry and senior Texans in Travis and Dallas County, and beyond. Please chip in what you can afford today and 100% of your donation will automatically be split between these organizations on the ground providing immediate relief.”
