  1. It’s amazing how much society has evolved…even journalism. This segment
makes so many ignorant remarks by ABC news “gay agenda” and just the
general tone of her being gay is made into such a huge deal…yet today
being gay is no big thing at all, and most of humanity has progressed to
accept gay people as everyone else. Humanity always prevails. Love Ellen.

  2. I do resent when gay peeps go on about Black people acceptance comparisons.
As much as I love Ellen, you don’t up and tell your parents “Mum Dad, I am
    a Black woman.”…

  3. the few european celebs who came outr did so way after their careers where
over – there is otherwise the very real risk of income dwindling by getting
no more acts be it in advertising, film or sports. as there are no
guarantees how it all turns out, its best to keep quiet.

  4. ellen was so sad… that’s horrible :/ she’s such an inspiration for me. I
mean I was 4 when she came out and 16 years later her sitcom has an impact
on my life. She’s such an amazing person !

  5. ALTHOUGH THERE ARE MANY NICE COMINGOUT FILMS WHERE EVERYTHING IS WONDERFUL,
I THINK ITS BEST TO KEEP QUIET. YOU CANNOT ASSESS THE RISKS BEFOREHAND
ESPECIALLY IF YOU ARE IN SPORTS OR FILM

  6. I will say this, Black people ARE CONSTANTLY toning down their Blackness.
The main struggle gays have had was for PUBLIC acceptance it wasn’t ILLEGAL
to be gay or openly gay like it was to be Black. In addition to the fact
that they have always had a considerable amount of political power, which
is how in my short life span of 20 years being gay has gone from not
acceptable to now they are able to get married. Public opinion was changed
primarily through television and media influence on the general public.
They use the Black experience to create a parallel between our experience
and theirs (and also to influence us specifically) and while there may be
slight similarities but they are NOT the same.

  7. America is so homophobic still compared to much of the rest of the world.
In Thailand it’s rarely ever an issue. Very sad 🙁

  8. Homophobia: The new segregation. When will we stop, people? Ellen is such
    an inspiring person.

  9. Ellen’s a smart gal and made the right choice. That sitcom was garbage,
just like most sitcoms, but what she did with it is legendary. She’s
right–one year doing what she did was better than a decade doing a “safe”
sitcom. It would’ve likely been pulled eventually even if she’d never come
out, just because she was the only interesting aspect of the show. And now
    look where she is.

  10. Her eyes are so sad in this interview. I’m glad she’s happy and successful
    now.

  11. “If I just had this one year doing what I did on television, I’ll take over
ten more years of being on a sitcom and just being funny.” Little did she
know then that she would then go on to do ten years of her own talk show,
in which she gets to be herself, talk about important topics, AND make
    people laugh.

  12. Ellen is beautifully for who u are and I love her for her comedy not who
she she so back off and stop being bitches

  13. Diane Sawyer is the worst. She takes delight in scandalizing and
sensationalizing the people she interviews. Ellen, Whitney, Britney
    Spears… She’s a joke.

  14. Its so sad because in 1998 people do accept or deal with Gay,lesbian,bi
transgender, And until 2013 still people dont accept ….

  15. @mcflystyle that was actually very well said except who the fuck says “an
    massive…” hahaha

  16. Ellen = pioneer, true true true! I’m French and I still can feel it right
now in 2010! 😀 Thanks Ellen for your courage! LOVE

  17. ”sexual choice” ??? ABC guy made a BIG ERROR saying that!! Non-educated
people back then obviously. Look at houw MASSIVE ellen is today and a high
INSPIRATION!! Lots of people are saved within themselves by Ellen having
the personaility and smart humour she has! She is a breath of fresh air. A
Legend in the celebrity world !! An massive input to society.

  18. This woman gives me so much hope and I am so overwhelmed and consumed with
    love for her, holy shit.

  19. “Sexual choice’? Stop right there, there’s no choice in the matter, I speak
    from personal experience..

  20. That president is full of crap. He did want that show to be taken off. What
does it matter if your gay or not. If you love that person, and are happy
what does it matter. People always say, don’t judge others. Yet, what are
they doing here. Their judging her. And their judging everyone else. We are
all people. We are all one and all the same, doesn’t matter what color,
what race, or if your gay or not. we are all one. So stop judging other
people, and stop putting them down.

  21. I live in Spain and I’m homosexual. I saw the series when in was already
canceled in USA and didn’t knew who Ellen was and all that happened because
her coming out. I was really surprised when I saw “The Puppy Episode”,
although it wasn’t a great deal here. I agree that the next episodes
revolved too much around her sexuality compared to the previous ones, but I
think the real problem is that they became too serious and less funny.

  22. @fannizsozso agreed.what’s even sadder? people still believe it’s a choice
despite scientific evidence that it is not.

  23. I think it isn’t important if someone is gay or not. They are the same. And
ellen is just great I love her, even though she’s gay and I think she is
adorable. She says she’s gay and this is really wow,not many people do that.
The interview is really touchfull she talks about all this soo
honestly.Ellen is hilarious, she tells the truth has the right oppion about
everything and it doesn’t matter if she’s gay or not. This whole interview
and ellen are just one word : ADORABLE

  24. She did help pave the way for equality.. I love this woman, she is a light
to every Gay person, and some who might just happen to be in a dark place
in their life. She is a huge inspiration. Personally, I owe her a lot, even
if it only be the fact that she exists in this world. I’m still waiting to
legally marry the love of my life, so progress has a ways to go, but I am
thankful for what rights I do have, even if I do have a sense of 2nd class
citizenship, it’s shifting in the right direction.

  25. Today I spoke to few of my friends, and they were all homophobic. One of
them told about the punishment given to the gay people (in bible) another
one was disgusted at the whole idea. For a second there I didn’t know how
to tell them that one of my all time favorite celebrities is gay. I was
thinking of Ellen the whole time each time they spoke against gay people. I
love Ellen and because of her as a heterosexual I am proud supporting gay
    people.

  26. She should have brought the show to England. All our soaps have had
gay/lesbian storylines, its actually becoming strange not to have at least
one homosexual couple on one of the soaps. America should get over it. It’s
    natural

  27. Neither am I fighting with you! It just feels wrong to me and it doesn’t to
you. Simple as that! No fightings needed… Although I don’t cherish the
    insincere “sweety!” lol

  28. @ElleBee81 agreed. people make this all about discrimination which played a
part in it but overall it was a legitimate decision in my opinion.

  29. god shes been through so much!!! she deserve all she has achieved. LOVE
    LOVE LOVE YOU ELLEN!
