Sadly, this was an L&G town hall meeting- B and T panelists were excluded.
Considering the statistics regarding violence directed at trans women of
color, it’s extremely disappointing that the NAACP excluded trans people
from the table.

Its good to see our black leaders, coming together with UNITY and LOVE.

black person, according to the Bureau of Justice Statistics. Blacks are
just 13% of the nation’s population but they account for more than 50
percent of homicide victims. Blacks comprise most of the nation’s homicide
and violent personal crime (like assault and robbery) victims. But Ben
Jealous and the NAACP are silent on this huge crisis. Instead, they put all
their power and influence behind same-sex marriage. How sad.
@Mr247star – I totally agree! Black people need to recognise that ‘they’ –
more than other ‘visible ethnic communities’ as far we know – seem to have
a problem with SGL people – in a white context – when I speak to my older
members of my family – they say that SGL people lived amongst them – they
were active in the town as business people, youth leaders, active in church
and so forth – and yes there did seem to be a more ‘free flowing’ notion of
‘sexuality’. So please keep talking to each other
Coming late to asking the black community for support??? WTF! Gay people
were the FIRST people to join the Civil rights movement to support black
people, we came late to asking the black community for your support because
we believed that you already had our backs. We didnt realize we had to
invite our allies. We supported you through injustice and just assumed (our
faults) that would be returned because we had been there. Once we realized

I’m glad this discussion happened, because I thought things were at a
better place than this, with these two intersecting groups. I do think
black people were unfairly blamed for Prop 8’s passage, which was due to
religious voters, not any particular race. And I’ve noticed NAACP has had,
at least what I can recall, a long history of supporting LGBT equality. I
don’t think any LGBT organization would permit a public racist in a
leadership position though. Is there one?

Civil rights are UNIVERSAL HUMAN RIGHTS and they belong to EVERYONE who
participates in society; hence CIVIL. And sexual orientation is hardwired
