  1. This was possible 15 years ago. Without being accused of some bloody
    “propaganda”….

  2. We performed in Russia in 1999. Sold out shows and the largest gathering
of LGBT people at that point. We want Putin to know that the world is
    watching and we will overcome!

  3. Thank you Alla for showing us that they are Russians who are Gay tolerant
..Russia’s great music history is hand in hand with Gays ….

  4. Absolutely Amazing! Wish I could have seen this live. I must comment
though, as an American who has traveled the world with the Military, and
actually trained in Russia, with the Russian Military, many foreigners do
not know English. It would have been much better, and more moving, if the
Chorus had sang it in Russian, or at least a portion of it, so everyone in
the audience could understand. Their LGBT community might even adopt it
as their song. The roots this song goes back to the days of slavery.
It’s an American Negro Spiritual, sung in the plantation fields. Russians
would not be familiar with this tune, or the story behind it. Maybe their
next trip over they can think about it. … Not a difficult task. I sang in
High School Chorus, and learned songs in Latin, German, Spanish, Italian,
    etc..

  5. It´s a memorable moment of people´s unity. I would say that this is the
most emotional thing that I have ever seen. I hope that we shall overcome,
friends. It is not only abouе LGBT, but about humanity.

  6. May God/Allah/Buddha forgive those who trespass upon us. The GLBT will
always ALWAYS be a part of humanity, past, present and future now matter
where they are born. We are the new Jews, hated by Neo-Nazi fascists and
Christian extremists alike. It’s not PC to do this to Jews today, but today
it is still ok to make laws against to us, to harass us, degenerate and
isolate us, to maim us, to murder us, all under the guise of Religious
Rights, Intolerance, Bigotry, and “protecting the children” slogans, and
    Propaganda Laws.

  7. Unfortunately, Putin’s era Pugacheva is far less supportive of gay rights,
to put it mildly, but anyway, good to remember, there were times, in
    particular 1999, Moscow. INCREDIBLE VIDEO.

  8. Pugacheva, who’s THE gay icon (think Barbra + Judy + Madonna…) and who
owes her career to gay men, some of whom have been her husbands, criticized
Madonna for protesting the anti-propaganda law and refused herself to say
anything about it. So she’s come a long way (in the wrong direction).

  9. No one is free until we are all free, to love & to be loved by the one we
chose to love & marry. WE can , we will, and we shall overcome the
prejudices. The world is watching, Russia.

  10. This is making me cry. The song is beautiful, but things are not as they
should be for our GLBT brothers and sisters in Russia.

  11. This was a gutsy “missionary” trip in 1999. Ever more so now. We know that
music can heal hearts and change minds. GMCLA Moscow tour in 2015?

  12. my humble tears breaking open and want to say We have had brighter days,
but struggles which have united us in the past and make all humanity
    stronger… (not more masculine).

We ALL have our own unique struggles and traumas. But we only have each
other (gay/straight/whatever you wanna name it).

#LGBT: Push with as much strength as you can with intention of love and
healing. Overcome everyday… a wise woman I just heard say ‘you have to
stay with us to see how it turns out’. #LGBT #CheersToSochi #itgetsbetter

  13. I know I’m biased, but that’s a great video Jim Roman. It tells a
beautiful and tragic story instilled with Hope. We Shall Overcome.

  14. What a great privilege to be at the keyboard with our dear Bill Trusten at
this historic performance. May our music resonate even today to bring
strength to our Russian sisters and brothers.

  15. No words. Only tears and deep fellings coming from bottom of heart..
    Beautiful !!!!

  16. As a performer at Tchaikovsky Hall that night, this brings back such
intense memories, passions, and now anger. It seems unthinkable how far
Russia’s LGBT rights have collapsed since that night. We Shall Overcome!

  17. This whole scene seems almost unbelievable given where Russia is today.
What a privilege to have walked through that door at that time. May none
of us ever forget those moments — in Russia and Los Angeles

  18. Oh how I wish they could return this year and perform again. I can only
imagine how demoralized our LGBTIQ brothers & sisters in Russia and many
other countries, must feel. Please know, we are with you in spirit and
    through love – with hugs,
A proud PFLAG sister, cousin and ally xoxo
