Todd Palin, the husband of the former GOP vice presidential candidate and former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, reportedly filed for divorce after 31 years of marriage.
In court documents filed Friday, Palin cited an “incompatibility of temperament between the parties such that they find it impossible to live together as husband and wife,” the Anchorage Daily News reported Monday.
Todd reportedly requested joint custody of his and Sarah’s 11-year-old son, Trig.
In 2010, the couple, who have five children together, starred in a TLC reality TV show, “Sarah Palin’s Alaska.”
In a 2007 email titled “Marital Problems” that was obtained by The Associated Press as part of a Freedom of Information Act request, Palin wrote to an aide and her husband, “So speaking of. … If we, er, when we get a divorce, does that quell ‘conflict of interest’ accusations about BP?”
An aide suggested Palin was joking in response to her email, writing, “Very funny.”
“Action Today, don’t listen to liberals when they mock ‘family values’ like they’re some relic of an ancient past. Rather, pass them on to your kids and watch what God does to change the world,” Palin once said in her book of daily devotionals.
In a 2008 interview with CBS’s Katie Couric, then Gov. Palin spoke on homosexuality, saying that she won’t “judge people,” but it is still a lifestyle choice that she would not make:
“But what you’re talking about, I think, value here, what my position is on homosexuality and you can pray it away, because I think that was the title that was listed on that bulletin. And you know, I don’t know what prayers are worthy of being prayed. I don’t know what prayers are going to be asked and answered. But as for homosexuality, I am not going to judge Americans and the decisions that they make in their adult personal relationships. I have one of my absolute best friends for the last 30 years happens to be gay, and I love her dearly. And she is not my “gay friend,” she is one of my best friends, who happens to have made a choice that isn’t a choice I would have made. But I am not going to judge people.”
Couric pointed out that Palin’s church, the Wasilla Bible Church, also takes the position that homosexuality is a choice and has sponsored a conference by James Dobson’s Focus on the Family to help gays “overcome” their homosexuality through prayer and covert them into being straight.
