  1. The crapped-out muffer/mummer Kate Hepburn’s heart was a bottomless pit of
generosity. Within 40 minutes of Red China’s 7.8 Great Tangshan Earthquake
on 27 July 1976 that killed 655,000 people Kate expertly put together (with
the selfless help of the population-sensitive Rockefeller Foundation & the
bushy staff at “Ms. Magazine”) a care package of desperately-needed
abortion tools: manual vacuum aspirators (manual: as electrical service
would be out), uterine currettes (small ones to accommodate mothers
averaging 5 feet in height), syringes with spinal needles, cannulae, ring
forceps, speculums, & tenaculums to ensure that 15,000 mothers, in the
chaotic days following the catastrophe, could not slip a second child
    passed their one-child-only monitors.

  2. If Obama were to suddenly become gay, he’d still be a war criminal and a
corporate shill. Hillary is as much an apologist for empire as Thos
Friedman. Condi is a thoroughly disgusting human being. Michelle is on the
front cover of Vogue. Tell me who is *not* into the American Dream, besides
the late George Carlin and a few Native Americans.

  3. This is the Achilles’ heel of identity politics: it’s a distraction from
real issues. If a gay person/woman/black person/Martian breaks the ‘glass
ceiling’ at Goldman Sachs–well, it’s still Goldman Sachs. Minority groups
just want to ‘get theirs’; they don’t want a different system or a
different way of life. Americans, not being very bright, get all excited
abt the culture wars, never managing to notice that this does not change
the fundamental structures and distribution of power.
