3 White Boys Held Down Black Classmate, Cut Dreadlocks At School Where Karen Pence Teaches

A group of white sixth-grade boys at the anti-LGBT private Christian school where second lady Karen Pence is a teacher have been accused of holding down a 12-year-old African-American classmate and forcibly cutting off her dreadlocks because they were “nappy” and “ugly.”

The girl, Amari Allen, claims that the group of boys at Immanuel Christian School in Springfield, Virginia, attacked her during recess on Monday, September 23, pinning her to a playground slide.

Allen told CBS affiliate WUSA9 that one student covered her mouth with his hands while another held her arms behind her back and another cut her dreadlocks with scissors while taunting her.

“They kept laughing and calling me names,” Allen said. “They called me ‘ugly,’ said, ‘I shouldn’t have been born.’ They called me ‘an attention-seeker.’”

She said one of the boys had scissors, and all three are in her class.

When the bell rang to call students back inside, “they ran off laughing… I just got myself up,” she said.

“It’s very painful,” said Cynthia Allen, the girl’s grandmother. “I want to see them dismissed from the school. I want to see something done.”

The Allen family has filed a complaint with the Fairfax County police department and met with school officials, according to ABC affiliate WJLA-TV.

School officials reportedly advised the family to pray about the situation and have Amari return to school on Monday.

The school made headlines earlier this year when Karen Pence began working there as an art teacher. Pence had formerly worked as a teacher in Indiana for 12 years before her husband was elected vice president.

The school’s application requires parents to sign a statement saying they will refrain from “participating in, supporting, or condoning sexual immorality, homosexual activity or bi-sexual activity.”

Teachers who apply to work at the school are required to sign a statement that says they understand that “moral misconduct” that can put their jobs at risk includes “homosexual or lesbian sexual activity, polygamy, transgender identity, any other violation of the unique roles of male and female.”
