Graham In Danger Of Losing Senate Seat In 2020 After Dem Challenger Ties Him In New Poll

A Change Research-Post and Courier poll released Friday shows that longtime Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) was in a virtual tie with his Democratic challenger.

Graham, a fierce defender of Donald Trump, held just a 2-point lead over his Democratic challenger Jamie Harrison. The poll had a margin of error of 3.1 percentage points.

The poll found that 47 percent of likely general election voters said that they would vote for Graham, 45 percent said that they would vote for Harrison and 9 percent said that they were undecided.

The Change Research/Post and Courier newspaper poll notes that Graham “looks extremely vulnerable against Democratic contender Jaime Harrison.”

Graham did not poll exceptionally high in favorability, with 38 percent of respondents viewing him very or somewhat favorably, and 53 percent of respondents viewing him very or somewhat unfavorably.

The poll also notes that South Carolina does not support impeaching Trump, however, “a majority of voters would like Senator Graham to approach the impeachment inquiry with an open mind, rather than leap to the president’s defense before hearing evidence.”

Graham on Sunday doubled down on his vow to vote against removing Trump from office in a Senate trial, even before the House has held a full-body vote on articles of impeachment. On Saturday, Graham said in an interview with CNN that he is “not trying to pretend to be a fair juror.”

“I am trying to give a pretty clear signal I have made up my mind. I’m not trying to pretend to be a fair juror here,” Graham said. “What I see coming, happening today is just a partisan nonsense.”

Graham, the chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, has represented the Palmetto State in the Senate since 2003.
