Jerry Falwell Jr. has agreed to resign as president of Liberty University on Monday, according to a school official.
The move came hours Miami “pool boy” Giancarlo Granda told Reuters that Falwell, a prominent evangelical leader and supporter of President Donald Trump, “enjoyed watching from the corner of the room” while he had sex with his wife.
Granda says he was 20 when he met Jerry and Becki Falwell while working as a pool attendant at the Fontainebleau Miami Beach hotel in March 2012.
Starting that month and continuing into 2018, Granda told the news outlet that the relationship involved him having sex with Becki while Jerry Falwell looked on from the corner of the room.
“Becki and I developed an intimate relationship and Jerry enjoyed watching from the corner of the room,” Giancarlo said.
Granda supplied Reuters with emails, text messages and other evidence that he says demonstrates the sexual nature of his relationship with the couple, who have been married since 1987. Texts reportedly show Becki saying she was “missing him like crazy” and an audio recording shows her complaining about hearing about the other women Giancarlo had been intimate with. Falwell Jr. was also on the call and told him that he was going to make his wife “jealous.”
“He´s like telling me every time he hooks up with people. Like I don´t have feelings or something,” Becki said.
Jerry then chimed in: “You’re going to make her jealous.” Giancarlo replied: “I’m not trying to do that.”
Granda leveled the bombshell accusations in an interview with Reuters after Falwell Jr told The Washington Examiner on Sunday night that he and his family were being extorted.
Granda claims that he was used as a “target” for the couple’s “sexual escapades.”
During the alleged affair, the trio went into business together with an LGBTQ-friendly hostel in Miami that Giancarlo runs.
News of the entanglement comes just weeks after Falwell Jr. took an indefinite leave of absence from Liberty University, the Christian school he has run since 2007.
The leave, announced in a terse statement from the school´s board of trustees, came days after Falwell posted, then deleted, an Instagram photo of himself with his pants unzipped, standing with his arm around a young woman whose pants were also partly undone.
Falwell later told a local radio station that the picture was meant as a good-natured joke.
