Singer Carly Simon reveals an incident she had with Donald Trump in her new book, Touched by the Sun, and how it framed her perception of the lecherous opportunist who became America’s President. The book focuses on Simon’s friendship with former First Lady Jackie Kennedy Onassis.
At a luncheon for former Pakistani Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto, Simon relates that Trump ignored the pop diva at first. But then he decided she could be useful.

“Trump wasn’t paying any attention to me at all. Why would he?” Simon remembered.
“Benazir Bhutto summoned me and asked me to go into the bedroom with her and so I went and we sat on the bed and she held my hands and said, ‘I just love your music.’ We talked about different songs that were her favorites and it maybe lasted three minutes,” Simon said.
“When I went out of the bedroom, obviously I had all of a sudden become important through the eyes of Donald Trump. So he was very anxious to meet me and invited me to Mar-a-Lago and was all over me like ugly on an ape.”
Simon says she refused the offer to visit Trump’s Florida estate, saying she found him “repulsive.”
During the 2016 presidential campaign, Simon licensed the rights to her hit song, “You’re So Vain,” to a pro-Hillary Clinton super PAC. It was the first time she had allowed the song to be used in a political ad. She did make one slight change to the song, however,
She changed the line “your scarf it was apricot,” to “your face it was apricot.”
