President Trump on Monday told his supporters that he intends to run for office again in 2024 and may stay in office beyond the 8 years the U.S. Constitution allows for because he claims he was “spied on.”
At an event in Mankato, Minnesota, the first of two campaign stops scheduled for Monday, Trump told the crowd: “We are going to win four more years.”
The crowd inside the event started chanting “four more years” during the president’s speech.
Trump responded, “then after that we’ll go another four years, because you know what, they spied on my campaign.”
“We should get a redo of four years,” Trump added.

Earlier this month, Trump took to Twitter to once again share a doctored video depicting him campaigning for office indefinitely on the cover of Time magazine.
The real Time magazine cover, which was published on Oct. 22, 2018, was titled “How Trumpism Outlasts Trump” and features campaign yard signs for Trump for every four years from 2024-2044.
The edited clip shared for the at least the third time by the president, adds an additional sign at the end that at first reads “Trump 2048,” before growing by four years at a time, then 100 years at a time, then even larger numbers until it eventually reads “Trump 4EVA.”
That tweet came just days after he floated on Twitter the prospect of delaying the 3 November election — a suggestion more in line with autocrats who try to quash the public’s ability to vote than with the head of the world’s leading democracy.
Trump last year suggested in a tweet that his supporters might “demand” that he serve more than two terms as president.
Trump has previously joked about serving more than two terms, including at a campaign rally in May 2019, when he told a crowd that he could potentially serve a fifth term in the White House with their help.
A month earlier, he told a crowd that he might remain in the Oval Office “at least for 10 or 14 years.”
