Yep, Kristen Stewart’s “Charlie’s Angels” Character Is “Definitely Gay”

Elizabeth Banks has answered the question every LGBTQ moviegoer is asking this fall (okay, at least this moviegoer): Is Kristen Stewart’s character in the forthcoming Charlie’s Angels reboot queer or not?

Well, throw your hands up at me because Banks—the triple-threat who wrote, directed, and produced the upcoming feature for Brownstone Productions—confirmed to PrideSource that Stewart’s angel, Sabina Wilson, is playing for our team.

“Kristen’s character is definitely gay in the movie,” Banks told the outlet. “I mean, she wanted to be gay in the movie and I’m like, ’Yeah.’ I made sure we kept that little moment in so that you understand what she was attracted to.”

The Pitch Perfect alum added that Stewart, who is queer herself, is totally game to answer reporters’ questions about her character’s sexual orientation: “She loves to be open about it. I just wanted to make sure that she was able to present a character that she was fully behind.”

Stewart stars alongside Naomi Scott, who plays Elena Houghlin, and Ella Balinska, who plays Jane Kano. And for the record: None of the three leading ladies had their character’s sexual orientations explicitly “written into the script.”

“Everybody in the script sort of flirted with everybody,” Banks noted, adding that it felt “very natural” to feature a queer lead in a 2019 revival of the iconic film franchise. “Everybody could go all ways at all times, and we didn’t want to put any limits on anyone. It’s a really great way to investigate your mark.”

Points were made! Charlie’s Angels hits theaters nationwide this Friday, November 15.
