Anderson Cooper says Donald Trump is ‘an obese turtle on his back’

Gay CNN anchor Anderson Cooper has likened President Donald Trump to a turtle flailing on his back as his hopes for a second term slip away.

The US presidential election result is still too close to call.

But with former Vice President Joe Biden now the clear favorite to win the keys to the White House, Trump has been lashing out.

His unsubstantiated claims that the Democrats are stealing the election from him have stirred anger on both sides of the political divide.

And yesterday Trump took to the podium in the White House Press Room for a briefing that was so extreme that major broadcasters ABC, CBS and NBC cut away, refusing to show more.

On CNN, a caption appeared below Trump as he spoke reading: ‘Without any evidence, Trump says he’s being cheated.’

Commenting on the situation, Cooper said, in a tone of resigned despair:

‘That is the President of the United States. That is the most powerful person in the world and we see him, like an obese turtle on his back, flailing in the hot sun, realizing his time is over.

‘But he just hasn’t accepted it and he wants to take everybody down with him, including this country.’

Naturally social media swiftly generated a photomontage to illustrate the analogy.

Tight race to the finish line

Biden has just taken the lead in the key state of Georgia, which would take him within one electoral college vote of victory.

Meanwhile, he’s within a hair’s breadth of overtaking Trump in the key state of Pennsylvania. If he wins that, its 20 electoral college votes would land him in the White House even without Georgia.

Meanwhile Trump is less likely to close the gap on his rival in Arizona and Nevada. Biden is ahead in both, although the race has tightened.

Finally, Trump is ahead in North Carolina and Alaska. However, he would need more than that to get a second term.

The president’s legal bids and threats have so far not prevented election officials from counting every vote.

But they have led to bizarre scenes where his supporters protested in Pennsylvania, demanding officials stopped the vote count, while also picketing in Arizona, calling on the authorities to keep counting, in the hopes Trump will catch up.

Meanwhile, win or lose, Trump has actually managed to secure more votes than he won in 2016 while Biden’s vote count also smashes record books.

The huge numbers show how divided America is and indicate Trump will continue to wield huge influence, even if he doesn’t remain in office.
